Hey! I just found this blog! Please keep it open, there is so much to absorb, I'm a teacher of the visually impaired, and each of my students is "blind" in a different way. I spend a lot of time wondering:
for those who prefer digital (audio) text to braille, how does their brain process sound vs tactile input? is the switch from braille to audio appropriate for all (blind) students?
how about those who loose vision? how does their brain adjust to the switch from visual to tactile or auditory input/output? How to teach a student with declining vision to read braille? Is that the plastic brain at work? AND: in a culture where video and image have become primary messengers of information, HOW to make it accessible to those with NO vision (congenitally blind) AND: how do mirror neurons come into play for such persons?
so you see, there is a lot to learn and explore here. ps my son was in the MBE program, 2007 graduate, otherwise I may never have stumbled upon this wealth of information.
